Punctuality Leads To Productivity: Don’t Be Late!

There's an old saying: If you cannot be there on time, then be there early!

School starts at 10:30am sharp.

But it is essential that students are dropped off between 10:20am and 10:25am.

This will give them time to avoid the rush, get settled in, greet their teacher and fellow classmates, and get into a proper learning mindset.

Arriving Late

Arriving late, even by five minutes, can adversely impact the classroom environment in more ways than one:

  • When your child walks into class late, when class is already in session, it is extremely disruptive to other students and to the teacher.
  • Your child will miss out on critical elements of the lesson plan.
  • Your child may find it difficult to settle in and focus, if they distract the class with their late arrival.

Therefore, we ask that all parents plan their mornings to allow extra time for commuting to Jafaria School in the morning.

The rule of thumb is to aim for arriving by 10:25am... This gives the students at least 5 minutes to be dropped off, to head to their classrooms, take off their coats, unpack their bookbags, get a drink of water, and meet and greet the teachers and their fellow students.

Report Your Absence

If your child will be unable to come to Jafaria School on any given Sunday, whether it is due to illness, conflicting personal commitments, transportation issues, travel, or whatnot, it is imperative that you notify the school of your child's absence.

If you have a planned absence coming up, be sure to notify us!

If you are unable to bring your child to school unexpectedly at the last minute, due to unforeseen circumstances, be sure to notify us!

Unexcused absences count against your student's class performance.
When you notify the school, it helps the teacher adjust their lesson plan and accommodate your child's missed assignments accordingly.

Always be sure to notify the school of your child's absence.

Absence Reporting Form

PreK Through 2nd Grade Storybook Return Policy

Every week, students in PreK through 2nd grades are issued a new storybook, to be read at home with their parents, as part of their weekly homework assignments.

Jafaria School requires that the storybooks must be returned back to the teacher the following week.

Our textbooks are intended to be reused each year for the next group of students.

7th Through 10th Graders: We Are Reusing Your Quran Textbooks From Last Year

Students in 7th through 10th grades were issued either Level 1 or Level 2 Quran Textbooks last year. These textbooks were intended for us across multiple years, during their entire time of enrollment at Jafaria School.

Therefore, students should locate their Level 1 / Level 2 Quran textbooks from last year, and plan to bring them with them to school every week, starting from Sunday October 28th, onwards.

If you do not have your textbook, please let your Quran class teacher know right away. You may be assessed a nominal replacement fee, if you had been issued a textbook last year and do not have it in your possession to reuse again this year.

Alternatively, copies of these textbooks may also be found online here.

Quran Prescreening Assessments: The Results Are In!

Over the next few days,  parents will be receiving an email which detail the placement results for their students.

Based on the students' performance on the pre-screening assessments, they will be placed into an appropriate Quran class that best caters to their individual skill level and mastery of Arabic reading.

Teacher Welcome Letters

The second day of the 2018 - 2019 school year will be Sunday October 7th, 2018.

Last week our students had an opportunity to meet their teachers and their peers, and get an overview of the upcoming school year ahead.

Parents should have received a welcome email from their children's respective teachers. If you did not receive a welcome email from your child's teacher, please contact the school administration, to verify that that we have the correct email address one file.

Students also received their Tarbiya Curriculum textbooks. (Students in PreK through 2nd grade were sent home with story books.)

Students will be receiving their Quran textbooks in the upcoming weeks, once all students have completed their pre-assessment screening.

Tarbiya Curriculum Textbooks

This school year brings with it exciting new changes to our school curriculum. This is the first year that we have launched the Tarbiya Curriculum, a groundbreaking initiative spearheaded by the World Federation, in partnership with NASIMCO. For detailed information about the new curriculum, please visit the official curriculum website.

If your child is in PreK through 2nd grade, he or she will be sent him with a different storybook every week, along with a workbook, reading activities and some occasional homework. Parents are encouraged to read the storybook with their children.

Students are expected to return the storybooks from the previous week, so that they may be issued a new one for the following week.

If your child is in Grades 3 through 10, he or she will receive 8 different textbooks throughout the school year, covering 8 different "modules", or units of study.

The infographic below helps to explain how the new Tarbiya Curriculum is laid out.

Quran Prescreening Assessments

During the first two to three weeks of the school year, all children undergo Quran pre-screening and assessment. This will help the Quran curriculum management team at Jafaria School establish a baseline for each student's current Quranic reading skill level.

Based upon the results of the assessment, students may may be moved to other age-appropriate Quran classes where the area of study can be tailored to their individual reading level.

If your student is being moved, you will be notified by email.

Textbook Reuse Policy For Grades 6 – 10

These textbooks are intended for multi-year reuse by students in their Quran classes from Grades 6 through 10.
