If you were unable to make it to Parent Teacher Conferences last week, not to worry!

If you would still like to meet with your child's teachers (or if your child's teachers have reached to you), then you can arrange to meet with them directly.

Simply send them an email requesting a conference, and they will be happy to arrange for a date and time for you to meet that is convenient for you, before, during, or after the school day.

You can even hold your conferences by phone if that is more convenient!

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held this upcoming Sunday February 2nd, 2020 during regular school hours.

Who will I be meeting with?

You will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with your child's Tarbiya teachers and your Quran teachers.

What will we be discussing?

You will have the opportunity to go over your child's progress in class, go over their homework assignments, quizzes, tests, and to garner general feedback about your child's experience in class.

What are the timings of the conferences?

Quran Conferences will be held between 10:30AM and 11:40AM.

Tarbiya Conferences will be held between 12:50PM and 2:00PM.

Will my children have class during the conferences?

YES. Students will have regular classes on this day. It will be a normal school day for students.

Do I need to schedule an appointment to meet each of my children's teachers?

YES. You MUST schedule an appointment in order to meet with your teachers. Walk-in appointments are not supported.

How do I schedule my conferences online?

Scheduling your conferences is very simple:

1. Log onto the Parent Portal:
   http://gradebook.jafariaschool.com
2. Choose which child you wish to schedule the conferences for.
3. From the Student Dashboard page, choose one of the following: Schedule Parent-Teacher Conference - Tarbiya Class
   Schedule Parent-Teacher Conference - Quran Class
   
4. On the next page, you will be able to click on the available time slots for the class that you chose.
5. Once you have clicked on an open slot, you will receive an email confirmation for your conference.
6. To select a conference for your other class you can go back to the previous page and choose the other class, to schedule the other conference.

What if I can't make it to the conferences on this date?

• Please reach out to your teachers to arrange a conference on a separate date.
• You may also arrange for a conference by phone.
• You may also review your teacher's feedback by clicking on "Gradebook" from the main menu, and then clicking on "Tarbiya Class Parent Teacher Conference Teacher Feedback" or "Quran Class Parent Teacher Conference Teacher Feedback".

How To Schedule Your Conferences Online

Step #1:

Log onto http://gradebook.jafariaschool.com.

Step #2:

Select your child.

Step #3:

Click on "Schedule Parent-Teacher Conference" for each class.

Step #4:

Click on any available time slot.

Step #5:

You should receive an email confirmation.
Repeat for the other class.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Sunday February  2nd, 2020, during school hours.

• Meet one-on-one with your child's Syllabus and Quran teachers!
• Get an idea of what your child is learning in class.
• Review your gradebook with your teacher.
• Review your child's progress with your teacher.
• Discuss strategies with your teacher how to improve your child's performance in class, and how to maximize your child's learning.

Students will be attending their regular classes as per their normal school schedule, while the parent-teacher conferences are going on.

Parent-Teacher conferences will be taking place in the ladies program hall while the kids are in their classrooms during the school day.

Conferences must be scheduled by APPOINTMENT. A link to the schedule appointments with your children's teachers will be send via email soon.

CONFERENCE SCHEDULE:

10:30AM to 11:40AM - Meet with your child's Quran teacher.
12:50PM to 2:00PM - Meet with your child's Syllabus teacher.

Poster Contest: Celebrating The Life Of Our Holy Prophet (SAW) – Deadline Sunday November 24th

The Jafaria School PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) will be holding meetings on the 2nd Sunday of every month, during school hours.

The first PTO meeting of the school year will be held on Sunday December 8th, 2019 at 01:00PM in the Ladies Hall.

Parents and Teachers are encouraged to join the PTO and attend the meetings so that we can collaborate on ideas or plan events to help make the school and engaging and enjoyable experience for our students.

Jafaria School will be closed for Thanksgiving Break on Sunday December 1st, 2019.

In honor of the birthday of our Holy Prophet (SAW), Jafaria School is inviting all students (in grades 4 through 10) to design a poster.

The poster can be themed around Prophet Muhammad (SAW)'s family tree, certain events or aspects of life, his noble traits and character. The poem can be a drawing, a painting, a collage, or even writings / poetry in honor of him (SAW).

All posters will be displayed at the entrance of the building.

The best poster will be awarded.

Posters should be submitted by Sunday November 24th, 2019.

Jafaria School is partnering up with Who Is Hussain to collect items on their behalf for this year's Winter Clothing Drive.

Collection bins will be available at the main entrance of the building during school hours.

Jafaria School students and children under 10 are invited to participate in a celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from 2pm to 5pm, immediately after school on Sunday November 17th, 2019.

Effective Sunday November 3rd, 2019, Jafaria School will be switching to a modified schedule, due to Daylight Savings Time.

The start and end times of the school remain the same.

However, in order to accommodate salaat at its proper time, the schedule of class periods is changing.

Please make a note of the new timings below:

10:30AM - 11:40AM - 1st Period (Tarbiya)
11:45AM - 12:05PM - Lunch
12:05PM - 12:45PM - Salaat
12:50PM –02:00PM - 2nd Period (Quran)
02:00PM - Dismissal

Notes:

• Dismissal of students in PreK through 3rd Grade will continue to be from their classrooms.
• PreK Junior timings remain unaffected by Daylight Savings Time and remain the same: 10:30AM to 12:15PM

Back To School Open House For Parents will be held on Sunday October 27th from 12:50pm to 1:10pm.

Parents will head straight to their child's Quran Classrooms. If you aren't sure where your child's classrooms are located, please feel free to ask at the front desk of the school. You may also refer to the email that you would have received recently, with subject the heading that starts with "[Jafaria School] New Quran Class Reporting Details".

This will be an opportunity for parents to sit in their child's classroom and meet with your child's Quran Teachers (and fellow parents).

The teachers will introduce themselves, go over the curriculum, their rules, regulations, expectations, and give you a taste of what your child will be learning this year!

The open house session will not be more than 15 to 20 minutes long, so all parents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to meet your child's teachers.

Children will be eating lunch during this time, so the parents will be able to report directly to the classrooms and meet with the teachers.

Note 1: If you have more than one child enrolled at Jafaria School: Parents, plan to bide your time between the classes, or one parent can attend one class and one parent can attend the other.

Note 2: If your teacher is unable to host the Back To School event on Sunday October 27th, they will have sent you an email letting you know, and will communicate an alternate date that they will be hosting it in their class.

Note 3: The Tarbiya Class Orientations were previously held on Sunday  September 29th. If you would like to meet with your child's Tarbiya teacher, you may reach out to them directly.

Jafaria School students will be commemorating the events of the Tragedy of Karbala on Sunday October 20th with a Youth Majlis.

The majlis will be held from 2pm to 3pm. 

All parents and family members of Jafaria School students are invited to attend the majlis to show your support and encouragement for your children's' efforts.

If you would like your child to recite during in the majlis, please contact your child's teacher immediately.

CLARIFICATION REGARDING DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

Students in PreK through 3rd Grade must be signed out from their classrooms by the parents, and escorted to the majlis hall.

TEACHERS WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR STUDENTS DURING THE MAJLIS.

IT WILL BE THE PARENTS' RESPONSIBILITY TO ESCORT AND ACCOMPANY THEIR CHILDREN WHILE ATTENDING / PARTICIPATING IN THE MAJLIS.

All students PreK Junior through 3rd Grade will be participating in a special Arbaeen Event during the Quran Class period.

All PreK Junior through 3rd graders are requested to dress in ALL BLACK... No uniforms for this week!

Note: This is separate from the Youth Majlis which is scheduled to take place after school at 2pm. PARENTS: Please plan to arrive at 2pm sharp to  sign out your child from their class.(Not any earlier, as class will still be in session.)

Parents should then proceed to escort their children to the Mens Hall for the Youth Majlis. Teachers will not be responsible for the students during the majlis.

The PreK Junior class is currently collecting monetary donations on behalf of Who Is Hussain, to raise funds to provide aid for those who are affected by the Newark Drinking Water Crisis.

Collection cans will be located in the Womens' Prayer Hall during school hours.

This is a community service announcement on behalf of Who Is Hussain.

The Quran assessments have been completed. All parents will be receiving an email on Saturday October 5th, 2019, with the new reporting details for your child's Quran class.

The email will detail the class name and the room number where the student should report to during 2nd period.

All students will be reporting to new Quran classes effective this Sunday October 6th, 2019.

Students are being placed in age-appropriate classes with other students with similar levels of Arabic proficiency, based on the results of their Quran assessments.

If your child has not yet been evaluated, we will be reaching out to you as well.
